Tottenham Hotspur will find it difficult to bring in new signings this summer, but Jose Mourinho would no doubt love to bolster his midfield options.

Spurs need to find a battling midfield player who can help the likes of Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso, as well as free up Tanguy Ndombele to play more freely.

Gedson Fernandes isn’t that kind of player, so Mourinho needs to look elsewhere – and Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks to be his choice.

Sky Sports claimed that Spurs were keen in January, whilst The Telegraph note that Tottenham remain interested as long as their budget allows a move.

The Dane is the type of determined battler that Tottenham are looking for, and new reports will be music to Mourinho’s ears as he attempts to bring him in.

The Scottish Sun claim that Southampton are trying to engineer a swap deal with Celtic, which would see Fraser Forster join the Bhoys permanently with Olivier Ntcham wanted in exchange.

Ntcham is allegedly seen as the man to replace Hojbjerg, with Southampton seemingly admitting that they need to sell the former Bayern Munich man this summer.

Hearing that Southampton are already planning for life without Hojbjerg is ideal for Spurs. It’s a small piece of encouragement for Tottenham as they attempt to land his signature.

Southampton will be under pressure to sell anyway, and with a replacement already identified, Spurs have real hope now. Everton being interested too is a threat, but with Kyle Walker-Peters a potential makeweight in a Spurs bid, Tottenham can begin to start piecing together their move for Hojbjerg.
