Season 1 of Control Z arrived on Netflix on May 22nd and follows Sofia as she searches for the identity of an anonymous hacker but just who are they?

While Netflix may be best known for big-budget drama series like Stranger Things and The Witcher, recent years have gone to show that there’s much more to the streaming service’s content.

One of the most popular genres we’ve seen on Netflix has been teen or school-based drama series and Mexico’s Control Z is the latest in a long line of series that fall into that category.

The series follows a girl by the name of Sofia as she works to track down an anonymous hacker after the secrets of everyone at school are starting to be revealed.

We spend eight episodes with Sofia as she works to uncover their identity but just who is the sinister hacker?

It tells the story of a group of students, led by Sofia (Ana Valeria Becerril), as they work to uncover the identity of a mysterious hacker who threatens to reveal secrets of everyone at the school.

All eight episodes are available to stream now after the series released on May 22nd, 2020.

Who is the hacker?

  • Raúl is revealed to be the hacker in episode 6 of Control Z.

That’s right, one of Sofia’s friends, who was part of the group trying to unmask the hacker, turned out to be the villain they were searching for.

The reveal for viewers came in episode 6 after Sofia had fallen out with Javier, believing him to be the hacker. However, after sleeping with Raúl viewers are shown the hacker’s mask under his bed.

The following episode then details Raúl’s deeds as the hacker through flashbacks before in the season finale, Sofia finally learns the truth for herself and discovers the hacker’s mask.

Setting up a second season?

The hacker may have been revealed to be Raúl but we don’t know if they were actually held accountable for their wrongdoings in the season 1 finale.

After a brief scuffle, Javier is accidentally shot by Gerry and we’re left with an agonising cliffhanger ending, not knowing for sure whether Javier will survive his or not, perfectly setting up a second season.

As season 1 has only just released, there’s no news on whether there will be a second season or not but as fans can attest, they can’t just leave Control Z there.

Until then, season 1 of Control Z is available to stream now after releasing on May 22nd.
