According to ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur central defender Jan Vertonghen wants a two-year contract worth £70,000 per week.

Vertonghen is out of contract at Tottenham at the end of June and wants a two-year deal with the same salary that he is getting now, according to the report.

The report has added that Spurs have shown no willingness to agree to those terms so far.

It has been further claimed that Vertonghen is “increasingly likely” to leave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when his current contract ends at the end of next month.

Tricky situation

According to ESPN, Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho wants Vertonghen available for him for the rest of the season, with matches set to run into July if the campaign gets back underway next month.

This means that Spurs will have to offer the Belgium international a new short-term deal, but it remains to be seen if the player will accept it.

After all, if Vertonghen gets injured while playing in July for Spurs, then he might have a problem in finding a club to sign him for next season and beyond.

It is quite a tricky situation indeed for Spurs, who are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
