Mauricio Pochettino has told Sky Sports that he is ready for a managerial job and wants to work in England, amid reported interest from Newcastle United.
According to Sky Sports, former Tottenham head coach Pochettino is the prospective new Newcastle owners’ first choice manager to replace Steve Bruce for next season and beyond.
The Sun has claimed that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund are on the verge of buying the Magpies from current owner Mike Ashley in a £300 million deal.
Pochettino, who was dismissed from his role as the Tottenham head coach in November 2019, has said that he is ready to return to football management in England.
Pochettino told Sky Sports when asked when he will be back in management: “I don’t know. In football, every minute counts. The most important thing is we are ready. We are open to listen and see what happens.”
The Argentine added: “I love England. My idea is to keep living in London but at the same time I am open to different countries, to listen and see what happens.”
Brilliant managerial appointment for Newcastle United
While Bruce has done a very good job at Newcastle and many would think that it would be unfair on him if he is not kept in the managerial job at St. James’ Park beyond the summer, there is no doubt that Pochettino is a level above.
The Argentine was brilliant during his time at Tottenham and was key in transforming the North London outfit from failing to qualify for the Champions League to challenging for the Premier League title.
