Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has revealed to the Lockdown Tactics that Harry Maguire was on Mauricio Pochettino’s wishlist when he was at Hull City.
Maguire ended up moving to Manchester United for £80 million, but it appears Spurs had identified him as a potential target long before he excelled at the World Cup in 2018.
And Rose says that Maguire has impressed him ever since he knew Tottenham were interested in the 27-year-old.
“Touching on Harry, we played Hull at White Hart Lane and I think we won 2-0 or 3-0, I think Steve Bruce was manager, and straight away our gaffer was all over Harry,” Rose said.
“I think [Spurs] were in for him. Once Poch had took a liking to him, I started to notice him straight away.”
Maguire could have been a wonderful addition to Tottenham’s squad if they had pushed for the transfer, but for whatever reason Pochettino wasn’t backed to make the signing.
Many Tottenham supporters have complained that Pochettino wasn’t given enough backing during his time at Spurs by Daniel Levy.
In the end that caused problematic, as Tottenham’s squad appears to reached the end this term.
Spurs have badly underperformed and results went backwards under Pochettino throughout 2019, particularly in the Premier League.
Maguire, meanwhile, has impressed during his first season at United and has helped to strengthen the Red Devils’ backline.
