Southampton are keen to bring a talented young midfielder across the Channel this summer, with Paris FC prospect Noe Masevo in the sights of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side according to FootMercato.

If the Saints have wasted pennies aplenty on a whole host of big-money disappointments in recent years, from Guido Carrillo to Wesley Hoedt, Moi Elyounoussi to Sofiane Boufal, at least they appear to have learned their lesson.

Perhaps motivated by the financial crisis which looks set to hold the transfer market in a vice-like grip for the remainder of this year at least, Southampton are back to prioritising little-known youngsters making their mark elsewhere in Europe.

Now, we can add a Ligue 2 midfielder to Italy U21 international Gianluca Scamacca, Porto centre-back Diogo Leite and Strasbourg powerhouse Mohamed Simakan (below).

Masevo, according to FootMercato, has admirers in Italy and England with Southampton willing to take a chance on a former Paris Saint-Germain starlet who is now plying his trade elsewhere in the French capital.

The teenager only has one year left on his contract too. Paris FC, who narrowly avoided relegation to the third tier this season, may be forced to sell if Southampton make a reasonable bid for his services.
