According to La Gazzetta, Lazio have made Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Leander Dendoncker a top transfer target this coming summer.
The Belgium international’s future at Molineux has been questioned.
Dendoncker arrived at Wolves in a £12 million deal and initially had a slow start.
But the 25-year-old has since a key fixture at Wolves, making 26 Premier League appearances this season prior to the Covid-19 suspension.
Capable of playing in midfield or defence, the versatile Dendoncker has averaged 1.9 tackles per league game this term (Whoscored).
La Gazzetta claim Lazio are looking ahead to next season. Football in Italy is expected to resume, with the Rome-based club well in the title race.
But the suspension has given time for Lazio to reflect. Simone Inzaghi’s side want to strengthen in midfield and at the back, with Dendoncker’s versatility a huge attraction.
The Wolves man has been cited as a ‘strong’ name and an ideal candidate to fit in with Lazio’s style of play and three-man defence.
Wolves will be keen to avoid losing any of their top players this summer.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have ambitions of closing the gap on the top four. They were going strong both in the Premier League and in the Europa League.
But the pull of Lazio is now almost comparable to that of 20 years ago. Champions League football is heading back to the club, while a first title since 2000 is possible.
