Mystic Pop-up Bar on Netflix features an all-star South Korean cast, but who is Hwang Jung -eum, the series’ lead actress.

Netflix has an incredible range of original Korean dramas available to watch and their latest addition, Mystic Pop-up Bar is no exception.

The show tells the story of a mysterious outdoor bar that can travel around three worlds and is run by people who settle grudges within dreams – sounds crazy, I know.

The series is based on the popular webtoon Twin Tops Bar and has been widely anticipated since its announcement back in June 2019.

The first season of Mystic Pop-up Bar has only just premiered on Netflix, but the shows main character Wol-joo, looks awfully familiar to many fans.

Here is everything you need to know about Hwang Jung-eum, the actress who portrays Wol-joo.

Who is Hwang Jung-eum?

Hwang Jung-eum is a well-known actress and singer from Seoul, South Korea.

She first gained fame in 2001 as a lead vocalist in the K-pop girl group Sugar, but left the band in 2004 to pursue a solo career.

However, it was her appearance in the daily sitcom High Kick Through the Roof that really jumpstarted her career on the small screen. In an interview with MBC Reality, Hwang confessed that before the show she had around ₩487 (US$0.45) in her bank account, but ended the show with an impressive ₩1.2 billion.

Hwang is married to professional golfer and businessman Lee Young-don, who she has a three-year-old child.

Hwang Jung-eum is 35 years old, being born on January 25th 1985 in Seoul, South Korea.

Hwang Jung-eum: Previous roles

Whilst Hwang is best known for appearing in High Kick Through the Roof in 2009, she has featured in a range of popular television shows and movies.

Hwang featured in Giant (2010) as Lee Mi-joo, a role that won her the New Star Award at the 2010 SBS Drama Awards.

She then won the ceremonies 2014 Top Excellence Award for an Actress in a Serial Drama thanks to her performance in Endless Love as Seo In-ae.

She has also starred in Kill Me, Heal Me (2015) as Oh Ri-jin, She Was Pretty (2015) as Kim Gye-hin and Golden Time (2012) as Kang Jae-in.
