With the arrival of season 3 on Sky Witness, some are asking what happened to Buck in 9-1-1. Let’s have a quick recap.

Have you ever watched so much TV in your life as you have lately?

This year has been rather surreal, to say the least. With many off work and finding themselves with much more time on their hands, TV has certainly helped fill the void.

Fortunately, this year has ushered in some expertly crafted new efforts, as well as excellent seasons from familiar and fond favourites.

The latest to make a triumphant return to UK screens is 9-1-1.

Created by Ryan Murphy, this compelling American procedural series places us alongside numerous Los Angeles first responders, whisking us away on jobs with police officers, paramedics, firefighters and dispatchers.

The latest batch of episodes began premiering on Tuesday, May 19th 2020 over on Sky Witness and NOW TV, but audiences have a question they want answering before pressing on…

What happened to Buck in 9-1-1?

Let’s reflect on what happened to Buck (played by Oliver Stark).

Why was he in physical therapy? Well, the answer also concerns Bobby (Peter Krause), as one of the department’s calls in the prior season led to responding to a fire at a restaurant. Sadly, they were unable to reach it in time and the owner died, leaving behind a son.

The failure to save him was forgiven by the department, but towards the end of the season the team were targeted by a package bomber; this is revealed to be the son of the restaurant owner.

Tragically, he decided to bomb the firetruck that Bobby was supposed to be driving, but actually, it was Buck at the helm.

Threatened by vicious flames, Buck’s fate looked sure and sealed. However, many banded together to help save the firefighter from the wreckage.

His recovery and the damaging effects of the ordeal are far from over though, as the first episode of season 3 suggests.

Oliver Stark talks 9-1-1 season 3

In an interview with Hollywood Life, Oliver Stark opened up about Buck’s arc in the new season:

“Very early on, you get some clarification on his medical conditions and where he’s at with that… then I think a lot of what we get to see with Buck in the second half of the season is that side of him being there for everybody else and that kind of selfless side that he’s grown over the seasons. He gets to help out and be there to support, which for me is kind of justice since he caused a lot of friction early on in the season. So now he’s making it up.”

Also weighing in on appearing in the spin-off series – 9-1-1: Lone Star – he added: “I think that would be great. There’s definitely potential for it… I don’t quite know how that would work, but we have really talented writers that I’m sure could find a way. I can’t wait to see where it goes.”
