It’s hard to imagine what we’d do without Netflix at the moment.
Recently, many of us have had much more time on our hands, which in turn, means we’ve demanded far more entertainment.
You may be doing more cooking, gardening, exercise etc. On the other hand, most have arguably watched more Netflix than ever before. Fortunately, the streaming service has truly delivered over the last couple of months, bringing back familiar favourites and ushering in gripping new efforts.
One of the latest to captivate viewers is Blood & Water, a six-part series which landed on Wednesday, May 20th 2020.
Ama Qamata stars in Blood & Water
The story centres on teenager Puleng Khumalo (played by Ama Qamata) as she discovers her family’s shocking past, all while navigating her life as a highschooler.
It’s compelling viewing, dealing with some rather essential and confrontational themes including human trafficking.
Also, we’d light to spotlight that it’s Netflix’s second African original series, following in the footsteps of Queen Sono.
Alongside Ama, we have the likes of Arno Greeff and Gail Mabalane showcasing their talents, but let’s take a moment to spotlight Ama, in particular, for a moment.
Ama Qamata: Age and Previous roles
The 21-year-old South African actress was born in Eastern Cape of Cala, Sakhisizwe Municipality, according to Briefly.
She attended Reddam House School and later studied Theatre and Performance at the University of Cape Town, leading to a career in acting.
Crucially, she earned a part on the Mzansi Magic soap opera, leading her to relocate to Johannesburg. Beyond that, it’s worth noting that her first role came courtesy of a sitcom called My Perfect Family; she appeared in season 4 and landed a recurring role as Naledi.
