Jamie Carragher has said on his own Instagram channel that he never thought Robbie Fowler looked right in a Leeds United shirt.

Fowler left Liverpool in 2001 to join Leeds, in a move which came as a shock at the time.

Fowler never really hit his top form at Leeds, with injuries curtailing his progress.

The clinical forward only spent two years at Elland Road, scoring 14 times in 33 games, before moving on.

And Carragher admits that he never felt Fowler looked right in a Leeds kit.

“I always used to look at Baresi or Maldini, heroes of mine, and you just see them in that [AC Milan] kit,” he said.

“I was sad when Raul left Real Madrid, because he just didn’t look right in another kit.

“Even Robbie Fowler, when he left Liverpool, and you see him in the Leeds kit – he was meant to be at Liverpool!”

Fowler actually ended up making a return to Liverpool in the twilight of his career, and spent two years back at Anfield between 2005 and 2007.

The England international forward also represented the likes of Manchester City, Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers after leaving Leeds, before he ultimately retired in 2011.

Fowler now has gone in to management, and is currently in charge of the Brisbane Roar in Australia.
