According to L’Equipe, Lille sporting director Luis Campos has rejected a huge offer from Newcastle United as questions linger over his future.
It’s claimed that Newcastle’s potential new owners had targeted Campos. They wanted him to become their new director of football, and made him a huge offer to make the move.
However, Campos has allegedly snubbed their offer. Campos has offered to help recommend some players to the Magpies, but he doesn’t want to make a move to Tyneside.
In this report, Campos allegedly doesn’t want to leave Lille. Reports in recent days have suggested that the Portuguese talent spotter has asked to go.
Campos instead wants changes at Lille and is willing to stay, in a decision that not only hits Newcastle, but maybe also Tottenham Hotspur.
Ever since Jose Mourinho’s arrival as Spurs boss, Campos has been linked with following him. The pair know each other from Real Madrid, and Mourinho often attended Lille games with Campos during his time out of the game.
In December, The Guardian stated that Mourinho was optimistic that Campos would be arriving. That hasn’t materialised yet, but hope has been building amid claims that he wants to leave Lille.
That may no longer be the case, and Mourinho will have to hope that the friendship with his compatriot means that Spurs enjoy more success than Newcastle.
