Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo is a popular South Korean television show that originally premiered back in 2016.

The story is a coming-of-age sports drama that is loosely based on the life of Olympic gold-medallist Jang Mi-ran.

Initially, Weightlifting Fairy didn’t get superb ratings when it first aired in South Korea, however the series quickly developed a cult following with young people across the world.

Lee Sung-kyung as Kim Bok-joo

Lee Sung-kyung is a well-known South Korean actress, model and singer.

The 29-year-old is from Goyang in Gyeonggi, South Korea and in 2016, graduated from the Dongduk Women’s University, Seoul.

Lee is best known for her roles in The Doctors (2016) as Jin Seo-woo, the Korean-dubbed Trolls (2017) as Poppy and Miss and Mrs Cops (2019) as Jo Ji-hye.

She has also featured in several popular Korean music singles, including ‘My Lips like Warm Coffee’ (2016) by Eddy Kim that reached number 3 in the charts and ‘Last Scene’ (2017) by Psy that reached 13th.

Nam Joo-hyuk as Jung hoon-hyung

Nam Joo-hyuk is a popular South Korean model and actor.

The 26-year-old is from Busan, South Korea and gained fame after winning the Top Model contest in Seoul.

Nam is best known for his roles in The Idle Mermaid (2014) as Park Dae-bak, Cheese in the Trap (2016) as Kwon Eun-taek and The School Nurse Files (2020) as Hong In-pyo.

In April 2019, Nam was officially endorsed as the brand ambassador for Dior Men in Asia.

Lee Jae-yoon as Jung Jae-yi

Lee Jae-yoon is a well-known South Korean-Canadian actor and model.

The 35-year-old was born in Seoul, South Korea but was raised in Toronto, Canada. In North America, Lee completed a sports degree from the University of Toronto before being scouted by a talent agency back in Asia. He would then complete a theatre studies degree from Dongguk University – later being appointed as university ambassador.

Lee is best known for his roles in My Love By My Side (2011) as Lee So-ryong, Heartless City (2013) as Ji Hyung-min and in Mother (2018) as Jin-hong.

Lee also has a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is a committed fitness enthusiast.
