Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be in the market for a new defender this summer – and they could go shopping for one in France.
Spurs are likely to see Jan Vertonghen leave when his contract expires this summer. Additionally, Juan Foyth looks set to be moved on.
That leaves Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez as the chief centre backs, with Japhet Tanganga offering promising depth.
Still, adding one more centre back should be a priority. Big signings are unlikely due to the global pandemic, but reports have emerged about one target.
AS report that Tottenham want to sign Monaco defender Guillermo Maripan. Watford and West Ham United are also claimed to be in the race for the Chilean.
Maripan made his name with Alaves, starring for the Spanish side before heading to Monaco last summer. They paid €18million (£16million) for him, with the idea of then selling him for up to €50million (£45million).
However, the global pandemic means Monaco would sell for cheaper; more like €30million (£27million). A giant presence at 6ft 4in tall, Maripan is big, strong and uncompromising.
Now, Maripan has offered his view. Speaking to Al Aire Libre back in Chile, Maripan has admitted that he wants a move to the Premier League, and is ‘aiming’ to earn a move to England.
“Personally I have always liked the Premier League a lot,” said Maripan. “I have always wanted to play there, so I am aiming there,” he added.
