Scream 5 has swiftly become one of the most anticipated horror films headed our way but which cast members are confirmed? Let’s take a look!

Who is your favourite horror filmmaker?

There are a wealth of genre masters, but few navigated horror so magnificently as the one and only Wes Craven.

It seems that whenever the genre was in need of help, he was there to reinvigorate. With classics like The Last House on the Left and The Hills Have Eyes under his belt, there’s no denying the controversial director’s impact, serving up genre hybridity and stomach-churning shocks.

It’s also arguable that Wes saved slasher cinema not once, but twice. When audiences were becoming largely tired of the formula, he provided an antidote with 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, proving that the cycle simply needed innovation and a new spin to bring people back in.

He did this again with 1996’s Scream, crafting a film in which all the other examples of the genre existed. Upon release, it was a breath of fresh air and remains one of the greatest horror films of all time.

We were last invited to bask in its world of Woodsboro back in 2011 with Scream 4, Wes’ final film before his tragic passing in 2015. His absence, as well as that of the franchise, has been sorely felt ever since.

Now, it’s back, but who is back with it?

Scream 5 confirmed cast

So far, the only cast member confirmed for Scream 5 is David Arquette, who is reprising the iconic role of Dewey Riley.

The 48-year-old American actor has starred in all four previous entries and, of course, fans are delighted to hear of his return.

As highlighted by Entertainment Weekly, he has said of his participation in the forthcoming project:

“I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new. Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honouring Wes Craven’s legacy.”

Although he’s the first and only cast member to be confirmed, the source adds that plans to get other original cast members aboard are underway, as his comment suggests. At the moment, they’re aiming to film later this year in Wilmington, NC. with safety measures in place.

Indeed, The Blast writes that Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott) is in talks to join and that Matthew Lillard (Stu Macher) has expressed his excitement to return.

Considering the series’ legacy, we can perhaps expect some great cameos and some rising horror icons to appear too… Samara Weaving, please?

Who is directing Scream 5?

Scream 5 is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

The duo is best known for the 2019 horror film Ready or Not starring the aforementioned Samara Weaving, which sees her play a bride caught in the world’s deadliest game of hide and seek.

They previously helmed a segment for the anthology film V / H / S, 2015’s Southbound and the 2014 feature Devil’s Due.

So, they’re experienced in the genre and the growth they’ve shown is admirable, to say the least. It’s hard not to have great faith in the project!
