According to RMC Sport, Lille sporting director Luis Campos has asked to be released from his contract amid links to Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s claimed that Campos spoke to Lille president Gerard Lopez on Sunday, and has asked to be let go. He has three years left on his current deal with Lille.
Campos is allegedly unhappy that he hasn’t been consulted over important club matters of late. Firstly, the future of manager Christophe Galtier amid links to Marseille, and certain transfer market plans.
It now looks like Campos will be leaving Lille, but a move to Marseille has been ruled out. So what about Tottenham instead?
The Guardian reported back in December that Tottenham had targeted Campos to become their new director of football. In fact, Jose Mourinho was described as being ‘optimistic’ that a deal would materialise.
Nothing has happened yet, but Campos seeking to quit Lille, Tottenham may just sense their opportunity. After all, Mourinho knows Campos from Real Madrid, and Mourinho would often attend Lille games with Campos during his time out of the game.
Mourinho even raided Lille for assistant Joao Sacramento. Just last week, Soccer Link suggested that Campos had offered Mike Maignan, Boubakary Soumare and Victor Osimhen to Spurs.
It would now be little surprise to see Campos head to North London himself. A middle man between Mourinho and Daniel Levy would be ideal, whilst Campos has operated the transfer market brilliantly in recent years – which is what Tottenham need in what could be a difficult window.
