Newcastle United are interested in signing Houssem Aouar from Lyon in the summer transfer window, according to Foot-Sur7, and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema’s previous comments on him will excite the St. James’ Park.
Aouar is one of the best young midfielders in Europe, and if Newcastle are able to sign him this summer, then it will be quite a coup for them, especially as Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in him – according to The Sun – and so are Liverpool, as reported by The Liverpool Echo.
Benzema is one of the best strikers in the world, and the Madrid star rates his French compatriot highly.
Benzema said about Aouar in 2018, as quoted by The Daily Star: “Aouar? He is the new star of Lyon and the next generation of the club.
“His beautiful season only confirms what I said about him. He is a very good player. I know him, I really like the player. He can go far.”
According to WhoScored, Aouar made 23 starts and two substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Lyon this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists in the process.
The 21-year-old midfielder scored one goal and provided three assists in five Champions League games for the French club this campaign, according to WhoScored
Football in England is suspended at the moment, while Ligue 1 in France has been called off due to the global health crisis, and it remains to be seen when the summer transfer window opens and how much clubs are willing to spend.
