According to Mundo Deportivo, Brighton Hove Albion and Bournemouth are both keen on signing Barcelona youngster Ramon Rodriguez, known as ‘Monchu’, this summer.
The 20-year-old midfielder is highly rated at the Nou Camp.
Monchu has featured more times for Barcelona B than any other player this season. Moreover, he tops the club’s scoring charts despite being a midfielder.
Barcelona manager Quique Setien has earmarked him for a big future at the Nou Camp.
But his current status and the level of competition at Barca has prompted interest in him.
Mundo Deportivo claim Premier League duo Brighton and Bournemouth are keen. Furthermore, clubs from Spain and Italy are monitoring his progress.
Monchu’s contract at Barca expires in 2021. The club have the option to extend his deal until 2023 which they have yet to exercise despite plenty of talk.
With such fierce competition at Barca, the Catalans aren’t against selling young stars.
Youngsters such as Marc Cardona, Marc Cucurella and Sergi Palencia were sold last summer after predominantly featuring for the Barcelona B team.
Brighton and Bournemouth, however, may only be able to strike should they preserve their Premier League status come the end of the season.
The current Covid-19 suspension has raised plenty of questions going forward.
While the Bundesliga returned to action, the Premier League has yet to confirm their plans.
The Cherries are currently sitting in 18th position in the table. Brighton, meanwhile, are just two points clear having won only one of their last 14 league games.
