Arsenal have made an enquiry to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan, according to FC Inter News.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is thought to be keen to bring in a new central midfielder, and it seems that Barella has emerged as a potential target.

However, Arsenal’s attempts to get hold of the Italian appear to have fallen at the first hurdle.

Inter have reportedly told Arsenal that Barella is not for sale under any circumstance this summer, as they are desperate to keep hold of him.

That has to be considered a blow to Arsenal, as Barella could have been a very appealing addition.

The 22-year-old has impressed this term, with Andrea Pirlo telling the Daily Mail he is one of the most talented players in Serie A.

“He is one of the best players in Italy,” Pirlo said.

The Daily Express had previously claimed that Inter wanted £31 million for Barella, but even that may not be enough now.

And Arsenal could well have to focus on other targets, as Arteta looks for ways to improve his squad for next season.
