The Xbox Series X was revealed all the way back in December 2019 during the Game Awards meanwhile Sony have yet to reveal what their console looks like. One of the better aspects about the Xbox Series X is its smart delivery function, and those who will be getting a PS5 come hell or high water are wondering whether Sony’s next-gen console will have the feature as well.

There are rumours that a PlayStation 5 reveal will be happening in June which – if true – will most likely finally show what the console looks like. This means that people could finally learn next month whether the console is white similar to its surprising controller.

However, while lots of gamers are interested in the aesthetics and beauty, there are also those who are more interested in features and capabilities. And this has resulted in plenty of queries as to whether or not the PS5 will have smart delivery like the Xbox Series X.

What is smart delivery for the Xbox Series X?

Smart delivery for the Xbox Series X is a feature which allows gamers “to always play the best versions of games across generations“.

To be blunt, smart delivery basically means that someone who buys Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Xbox One will receive a free upgrade for the game on Xbox Series X.

Aside from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, another notable game that has been confirmed for a free upgrade is Cyberpunk 2077.

While smart delivery currently only applies to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X, it’s possible that it will also apply to Xbox Series X exclusives when Microsoft eventually release “additional consoles in the future“.

Will PS5 have smart delivery?

Sony hasn’t announced anything about the PS5 having smart delivery.

However, while Sony hasn’t officially announced anything, there are rumours that the smart delivery feature could be utilised for the PS5.

Per Gamerant, Twitter user PSErebus states that certain PS4 games that are set to release later this year will allow players to upgrade to the Sony next-gen version for free.

This same Twitter user claims that FIFA 21, Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Marvel’s Avengers will all be a part of the PS5’s supposed smart delivery function.

You should obviously not treat this rumour as gospel as Sony’s Road To PS5 event mentioned nothing about a smart delivery-like feature.

As of this moment in time, all Sony has confirmed is that the PS5 will be backwards compatible with an “overwhelming majority” of PS4 games.

However, with all of the above being said, the rumour strictly correlates to games scheduled for release near the next-gen console’s Holiday 2020 launch, so it’s possible that Sony will make a smart delivery announcement for Assassin’s Creed and Cyberpunk 2077 in the rumoured June event.
