Liverpool would no doubt love to add to their attacking options this summer, but the global pandemic may just half their spending plans.
After a frugal window last summer, Liverpool looked primed to spend this summer. Yet with more pressing matters now at hand, big deals seem unlikely.
Adding a new forward to support Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah would be ideal, and Timo Werner of RB Leipzig is a name often linked with the club.
The German attacker has racked up 27 goals and 12 assists this season, again proving that he is one of the best attackers in Europe right now.
With blistering pace and elite predatory instincts, Werner could bring something different to the Liverpool attack – and Sky Sports claim that he is ready to make the move to Anfield.
Liverpool may look to negotiate a lower fee than the £52million release clause in Werner’s deal, but the striker has still been backed for a move to Anfield.
Former German international Thomas Doll – who was replaced by Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund in 2008 – has spoken to Tuttomercatoweb about Werner, and believes he is ‘ideal’ for Liverpool.
Doll added that the high-pressing style under Klopp is perfect for Werner, and he can have a vital role at the club, especially if Sadio Mane ends up leaving for Real Madrid in the future.
“Strong and fast, for me it is ideal for Liverpool,” said Doll. “He can go to play in England and the Reds with their football made of pressure, it can be suitable for him. Then there is the situation of Manè who could go to Real. For me, Werner doesn’t stay in Leipzig,” he added.
