According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal joining Newcastle United depends on Massimiliano Allegri becoming their new manager.
It’s claimed that Newcastle are interested in signing Vidal, but it’s dependent on Allegri coming in as their new manager this summer.
With Mauricio Pochettino favourite for the Newcastle job, Allegri and Vidal may not be reuniting at St James’ Park, but the Chilean is a name to keep an eye on.
Signed by Barcelona for £27million in 2018, Vidal is now available this summer, with Barca desperately trying to raise funds in order to make signings of their own.
The 32-year-old is arguably past his best now, so it makes sense for Barca to flog him this summer, even if they will likely take a major loss now.
Allegri and Vidal spent just one season together at Juventus, but won the 2014-15 Serie A and Coppa Italia, before the midfielder moved on to Bayern Munich.
Allegri even had to play down talk of a rift with Vidal in 2015, just months before selling him, so their relationship isn’t without it’s ups and downs.
Still, with Newcastle’s takeover close to going through, they could tempt Vidal to the Premier League, but only if ex-Juventus and AC Milan title-winner Allegri makes the move too.
