Clermont will have little choice but to sell star man Adrian Grbic if they receive a ‘very large proposal’ for the Celtic and Rangers target, manager Pascal Gastien has told MaLigue2.
With 17 strikes in just 26 games during a fabulous breakthrough season, it felt like only a matter of time before an Austrian U21 international found himself a place in the gossip columns.
TEAMtalk claim that Grbic’s relentless goalscoring ways have caught the eye of two of the biggest and best supported clubs in British football – Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers.
A centre-forward who can also play on either wing, the former Stuttgart starlet may soon be tasked with replacing Alfredo Morelos or Odsonne Edouard in Glasgow with the two giants of Scottish football expected to receive plenty of offers for their star men over the summer months.
Yet Grbic will not be allowed to move across the Channel on the cheap.
“If someone asks me if I want to keep him – yes, of course. All coaches want to keep their best players. But things are clear; if the club receives a very large proposal and, if it suits him, he’ll leave,” Gastien says of a forward who fired Clermont into contention for promotion before the Ligue 2 season was brought to a premature conclusion.
Gastien stopped short of explaining how much Clermont would demand for their free-kick specialist, who is famed over in France for his deadly long-range shooting ability.
But one thing is for sure, Grbic would cost a lot less than Edouard and Morelos. If Celtic or Rangers cash in on their top scorers, they will surely have no problem funding a deal for the young Austrian.
