The Final Fantasy VII Remake has lots of changes with characters dead in the 1997 original and conclusion of Crisis Core appearing to still be alive. These changes have resulted in the game’s conclusion being dubbed daring and brave, and it has consequently resulted in fans wondering whether Aerith will still die like in Cloud’s visions or if Square Enix will allow her to somehow live.

Some of the more notable changes in the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake include Biggs not being dead as well as Zack escaping his death from Crisis Core. These changes came about by way of defeating the Whispers Of Fate who were designed to maintain destiny like stubborn old-school fans who wanted the original story to remain entirely intact.

Thanks to the aforementioned differences which have contributed to the game now being dubbed a reimagining as opposed to remake, some fans are concerned about whether Aerith will still die.

Will Aerith still die in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

There’s no knowing if Aerith will still die in the Final Fantasy VII Remake or if she’ll somehow live.

We don’t know if Aerith will still die in part 2 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake or any further episodes as the game’s cast are no longer destined to repeat their fate from the 1997 original.

With that being said, there are mixed signals from Square Enix as co-director Yoshinori Kitase has said that the original story won’t be greatly altered despite the elimination of the Whispers Of Fate.

“We’re not drastically changing the story and making it into something completely different than the original,” Kitase is reported to have said in an English translation of the Ultimania book.

“Even though it’s a Remake, please assume the story of FF7 will continue as FF7 always has.”

Although the above quote is understandably confusing, what we imagine it means is that players will still visit the same locales and come across the same characters yet to be introduced to the party such as Cid and Yuffie.

As for the famous death of Aerith, it’s completely up in the air. She could die at the hands of Sephiroth like in the original and in Cloud’s visions, she could die and then somehow be revived come the end, or another beloved character could die in her stead such as Tifa depending on your choices and levels of affection.

We wouldn’t want Aerith to live if Sephiroth were to stab her through the belly again as death was already cheapened enough in part 1 with the fake outs for Barrett, Biggs, and possibly Jessie.

Fans also want the death to be included because it’s iconic and paramount to the original’s storyline, but the prospect of it not happening is admittedly interesting because it makes the ‘remake’ unpredictable.
