There’s a lot of exciting news concerning Fortnite right now as Epic Games have announced a Party Royale to celebrate it reaching 350 million players. However, away from this incredible achievement, some of these players want to know if the developers did remove skill based matchmaking from the experience.
While Fortnite players routinely have plenty of exciting content on a yearly basis, they’ve recently been treated to a phenomenal Travis Scott concert as well as the brief return of lightsabers. Although it’s impossible to please everyone 24/7, there’s no denying that the concert in particular has squashed the majority of complaints about the game being poor and dead thanks to the arrival of Valorant.
However, while the concert broke plenty of streaming records, another notable development that will make fans happy is the reported removal of skill based matchmaking.
What is SBMM in Fortnite?
SBMM in Fortnite translates to skill based matchmaking.
As for what SBMM does for Fortnite, it results in players being matched up against fellow competitors at a similar skill level.
It essentially spares low-levelled players from being pitted against those who are a much higher level due to being better or spending more time on the game.
However, while this sounds like a good idea on paper thanks to being a used concept in other online games, lots of the Fortnite community have complained about it.
Is there skill based matchmaking in Fortnite?
There is no longer skill based matchmaking in Fortnite Squads.
However, there is still skill based matchmaking in Fortnite when it comes to Duos.
Republic World has reported about the divisive feature being eliminated from Squads and fans have responded on Twitter by thanking Epic Games.
Most of the tweets you’ll find online express approval over the divisive feature being removed. With that being said, there are still complaints to be found with some arguing that all the “sweatys” are now playing Squads.
Why did Fortnite remove SBMM?
Epic Games haven’t announced why skill based matchmaking has been removed from Fortnite.
It’s possible that the skill based matchmaking was removed thanks to the many complaints from Fortnite YouTubers such as Ali-A.
People like Ali-A argued that the system stopped the game from being fun by turning every match into a massive sweat.
But, regardless of why it’s been removed, most fans online appear to be happy with the decision.
