Recently, many of us have had more time to check out a string of enticing films and TV shows on the likes of Amazon, Shudder, and of course, Netflix.
They kicked things off massively with documentary series Tiger King, but if you’re looking for something that’s, well, a little more charming – to say the least – then The Half of It is worth seeking out.
Written and Directed by Alice Wu, the film arrived on the streaming service on Friday, May 1st 2020 and tells the story of Ellie Chu, a shy student who becomes involved in a love triangle when she agrees to help write a love letter for a football player with a crush.
It earned the Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival and has received adoration from critics and audiences alike, so let’s take a moment to explore it…

As highlighted by The Cinemaholic, The Half of It was filmed across a variety of locations in New York, USA.
Essentially, they found a number of places which create the illusion of one immersive space, with the source identifying that the crew were spotted filming in the following:
- Old Forge
We suspect many audiences will be curious about the train station, as many important narrative moments take place there.
The sequences which take place there were shot at the Adirondack Scenic Railroad train station in Old Forge, while the earlier source also includes that some scenes were actually filmed in Van Auken’s Inne in Thendara.

Paul and Aster meet at the spot numerous times throughout the film and much is revealed about their characters there.
The actual location is Sparky’s Diner in Garnerville, which you may have seen in another couple of films, actually…
It was featured in such fairly recent movies as 2015’s True Story starring James Franco and Jonah Hill, as well as the 2018 drama Ben Is Back with standout performances from Lucas Hedges and Julia Roberts.
As for when Ellie and Aster head into the forest, they’re actually at Palisades Interstate Park, New Jersey.
