According to Ole, Everton are interested in signing River Plate talent Nicolas De La Cruz – and are fighting Borussia Dortmund for his signature.
De La Cruz has been a star with River. With 11 goals and 20 assists in 79 games for the Argentinian sie, he has thrived since joining in 2017.
Formerly of Uruguayan side Liverpool, De La Cruz has now proven that he is a top talent for the future, despite having some issues that Premier League teams may be scared by.
He’s only 5ft 6in tall, whilst he has endured injury problems with River too. Still, he’s quick, skilful and very hard-working, and has real potential at just 22.
Everton may well view him as a player who can play on either flank or as a number 10, and previous rumours suggest that this could be a real coup for the Toffees.
Back in November, Ole reported that another Premier League team wanted De La Cruz. Manchester City allegedly opened talks to sign the Uruguayan, with a €22million (£19million) release clause in his deal.
Pep Guardiola’s men weren’t able to seal deal, and whilst they could come back into the race soon, Everton now have the chance to swoop in and take him.
De La Cruz being wanted by City sums up the quality he possesses. Yet whilst he may only have been a squad player at the Etihad Stadium, he may receive more playing time at Everton.
£19million is still a gamble given the ongoing pandemic and the mixed success rate of players heading straight from South America to the Premier League, but if Everton can sign De La Cruz, they may just land themselves a major coup.
