Arsenal have struggled badly to live up to expectations this term, and Garth Crooks feels that the Gunners should look at Watford.

Gerard Deulofeu of Watford runs with the ball during the FA Cup Final match between Manchester City and Watford at Wembley Stadium on May 18, 2019 in London, England.

Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that Watford forward Gerard Deulofeu should be playing for Arsenal.

Deulofeu was in fine form for Watford on Friday evening, as the Hornets beat Norwich City 2-0.

The £11.5 million Spaniard (Sky Sports) tormented the Norwich defence, and Crooks claims that Arsenal should have taken a look at him.

Crooks also feels that Arsenal should look to appoint Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores rather than Unai Emery, as he would be an upgrade.

“I think Watford are very lucky to have Quique Sanchez Flores at the helm considering the way he was unceremoniously sacked during his first spell at the club,” Crooks said.

“The Hornets have been threatening to win away from home under Flores and did it quite comprehensively against Norwich. The reason was Gerard Deulofeu. When the Spaniard is in this mood he’s almost unplayable. Deulofeu should be playing for Arsenal and Quique Flores managing them.”

Bizarre claims

Both claims from the BBC Sport appear rather misguided, as they fail to address the real issues at Arsenal.

Quique Sanchez Flores the head coach

Deulofeu has proven to be a threat for Watford this term, but another skilful attacker is the last thing that Arsenal really need.

The Gunners already are strong in attack, but it is in central midfield and defence were they could do with some investment.

Sanchez Flores’s appointment at Arsenal, meanwhile, would unlikely go down well.

It was not long ago that Watford fans were chanting ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ towards their own manager and, despite their victory at Carrow Road, he is surely in no place to land the Arsenal job any time soon.
