Chelsea full-back Reece James is reportedly on the radar of Leeds United and Newcastle United.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that reported Leeds United and Newcastle United target Reece James will get better, as quoted in Metro.

Lampard made the comments about James following his brilliant performance against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League at the weekend.

The 19-year-old full-back had a very good match on Saturday, as he kept Palace winger Wilfried Zaha quiet and was very encouraging overall.

According to WhoScored, the teenager had a pass accuracy of 85%, took 74 touches, attempted three dribbles, and made two tackles, three interceptions and one clearance.

The Sun has reported that Newcastle manager Steve Bruce wants to sign James on loan in the January transfer window.

According to the British tabloid, Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa is also an admirer of the teenager.

Metro quotes Lampard as saying about James: “I just felt we could get Reece some minutes and he’s deserved them with the way he’s trained and played.

“With Zaha I thought what better test? Every team has players that can hurt you on the counter attack and he’s one of the best.

“I thought could we hurt them the other way and make him run back more than forwards. I’ve got trust in Reece defensively. It was a really impressive game from him and he’ll get much better.”

Chelsea stay

It could still be a while before James establishes himself as a key figure in the current Chelsea team, but given Lampard’s praise, it seems very unlikely that the Blues will let James leave on loan in the January transfer window.
