Burnley’s Premier League starlet Dwight McNeil has been linked with Everton, Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As one perceptive supporter pointed out on Twitter on Saturday afternoon, ‘when are we going to start talking about Dwight McNeil’?

The England U21 international remains somewhat bizarrely under the radar despite spending the last 12 months going from strength to strength at Burnley.

TEAMtalk reported last week that Leicester City are leading the chase to sign McNeil for £30 million with Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers also interested. But even despite a recent spike in speculation, the one-time Manchester United youngster remains one of the Premier League’s best-kept secrets.

Though it’s about time he entered the mainstream consciousness.

McNeil was the best player on the pitch as Burnley battered West Ham 3-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday. He set up Chris Wood’s second, his fourth assist of the season, robbing the ball off Fabian Balbuena before squaring for the grateful New Zealand international.

If it wasn’t for that pesky VAR, McNeil would have set up Wood again when his sublime whipped cross found the striker marginally offside in the penalty area. That delivery alone, straight from the David Beckham playbook, was almost worth £30 million by itself.

Burnley fans won’t thank us for bringing McNeil to everyone’s attention – but it’s about time he got the recognition he deserves.
