Fabinho and Mohamed Salah scored early in the first half to put the Reds 2-0 up, before Sadio Mane found the net in the opening minutes of the second period.
Bernardo Silva pulled one back for City in the 78th minute, but it was too little, too late.
The result means that Jurgen Klopp’s side are now eight points clear at the top of the league table and nine ahead of defending champions City.
What a great result done excellent performances all@round including the supporters a long way to go but I’d rather be 9 points ahead than adrift!!ynwa folks enjoy tonight— John Aldridge (@Realaldo474) November 10, 2019
