The Sunderland striker put in another lacklustre display for the Black Cats as they were forced to settle for a replay in their Stadium of Light clash.

A number of Sunderland fans have been commenting on Twitter about their FA Cup draw at the Stadium of Light and Will Grigg came under some scrutiny following his performance on the day.

The Black Cats forward may have kicked on somewhat following Phil Parkinson’s arrival but on Saturday he put in another lacklustre performance – he did work hard, and one clever early flick almost reaped dividends for the hosts, but he was largely ineffective.

Parkinson ended up substituting him not long after the hour for Marc McNulty and several Sunderland fans took to social media to make their feelings known about the game, in particular regarding Grigg once again flattering to deceive:

Sunderland took the lead in the 15th minute when Aiden McGeady’s low shot from the edge of the area was misjudged by the Gills keeper, the ball going under his dive, but the visitors regained parity when Jon McLaughlin made an error of his own in the second half.

The Black Cats and Gillingham will take part in their replay in Kent a week on Tuesday, while the Black Cats are in EFL Trophy action away at Scunthorpe in midweek and then face Coventry at the Stadium of Light next weekend.
