Everton may have won but some of the Goodison Park faithful didn’t like the Toffees forward’s display for Marco Silva and co today.
A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on their side’s Premier League game today and, although Marco Silva’s charges were victorious, one Goodison Park player’s display came under some scrutiny.
Everton claimed their first away win of the season to move out of the lower reaches of the table at the expense of fellow strugglers Southampton, running out 2-1 winners on the south coast.
Tom Davies put Everton ahead after just four minutes, heading in from close range after Mason Holgate diverted Gylfi Sigurdsson’s corner back across goal, but the Toffees spurned numerous chances before Danny Ings pulled the Saints level.
In the end, the Goodison Park side emerged triumphant as Richarlison turned home Djibril Sidibe’s cross from six yards out in the 75th minute for a lead the visitors would not relinquish again.
Although Cenk Tosun – named in the XI by Silva – linked up well with his teammates, he slowed down the play, and also spurned a gilt-edged opportunity from five yards out which would have doubled Everton’s lead, and in the end he was replaced by Dominic Calvert-Lewin on 74 minutes.
Here is what some Everton fans have been saying about Tosun’s display on the day:
Richarlison used to get the ball out on that left side and attack defenders, daring people to deny him the end line or the middle – where has that player gone? Tosun is an energy guy off the bench, but can’t get on the end of Gylfi’s passes or create his own shot. #Everton— Jim Willis (@TsarWillis) 9 November 2019
Understand him not playing kean but to not have him on bench is poor prefer tosun when he comes on from bench injects a bit of urgency when needed— craig johnstone (@cjohno1001) 9 November 2019
And people call Tosun a goal scorer. Can’t even finish a tap in from 2 yards out. Kean should be starting games like these— EvertonReactions (@EvertonReactio1) 9 November 2019
Just not seeing it with Tosun. Gives it his all, has passion… but just doesn’t do enough. Rather give DCL the minutes.— Toffee Targets (@ToffeeTargets) 9 November 2019
Tosun is a great impact substitute. I don’t understand the calls to give him a bigger role than that.— Ankur Mandhania (@amandhania) 9 November 2019
Hope everyone now realises Tosun is pants— smart those jeans (@EFC_Dan) 9 November 2019
It’s another painful afternoon, isn’t it? Tosun’s miss was shocking. Very fortunate that obvious penalty wasn’t given. Guess we were due a break in that department…— Stuart Clark (@stuartclark66) 9 November 2019
Tosun has been useless time to bring on Moise or DCL— Bitcoin is Ded (@uknicks) 9 November 2019
Can that PLEASE be the end of Cenk Tosun as a starting striker? He’s. Not. Good. Enough.— Everton Nova Scotia (@EFCNovaScotia) 9 November 2019
Tosun is dreadful as a starter. Had enough chances— martin walsh (@martinwalsh3257) 9 November 2019
Made a huge difference when he came on. Sadly Tosun didn’t cut it remotely. DCL holds the ball up and is way more of a handful. He starts the next game for me.— peter james needham (@pjneedham40) 9 November 2019
The result saw Everton climb up from 17th to 13th in the Premier League table, a place and a point ahead of Manchester United, who host Brighton on Sunday.
