The Rams headed to the City Ground as Phillip Cocu took on Sabri Lamouchi’s Reds and the Pride Park midfielder struggled against their rivals.
A number of Derby County fans have been commenting on Twitter during and after their Championship loss at bitter rivals Nottingham Forest, with Duane Holmes coming under criticism from sections of the Rams fanbase.
The 25-year-old flattered to deceive for Phillip Cocu’s side, with his decision-making and final passes somewhat poor on the day and the Reds very much on top in the midfield battle, and in the end he was taken off in the 73rd minute for Jamie Paterson.
By then, Derby were a goal behind, Jayden Bogle having made a mistake with a poorly hit pass into the centre which was pounced on by Lewis Grabban, who made the most of the opportunity to rifle into the bottom-left corner.
Here is what some of the Pride Park faithful were saying on social media regarding the game, in particular Holmes’ display:
Get Holmes off. Hasn’t done anything all game #DCFC— Joel Moore (@jmDCFC) 9 November 2019
Having to move Bielik to CB has killed us. He was bossing it. I’d put Wisdom on for Holmes. Forest are not good, we make them look good #dcfc— Bobby (@Bobby99448940) 9 November 2019
Does holmes actually do anything,no end product what so ever #dcfc— Bullyboib (@bullyboib) 9 November 2019
Lawrence and Marriott our only good players today, poor display from Martin, Holmes and obviously Bogle, 2nd half forest completely dominated and deserved to win#dcfc— sam dooley (@d00l3yy) 9 November 2019
I felt Bogle’s booking was fair. Can’t comment on Holmes because I honestly didn’t see him do anything of note today. Agree on the ref though. How many times were free-kicks retaken or suspect fouls spotted from corners? Appalling officiating, again— Joel Moore (@jmDCFC) 9 November 2019
Duane Holmes has regressed— Peyote Dal Colle (@I_Macks) 9 November 2019
This is really disheartening to see
Holmes, who joined Derby from Scunthorpe United last summer for a reported £700,000 fee (Transfermarkt), featured plentifully in the second half of the Championship season, making 27 appearances in the league and playoffs, while this term he has 21 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
