Who sings on the Aldi Christmas advert?

Aldi Christmas Ad 2019

Aldi's 2019 Christmas advert is here but who's behind that familiar singing voice?

Christmas time is fast approaching meaning that our TV channels are going to be full of cheery Christmas adverts before too long.

While John Lewis is yet to launch their trademark advert, which has become a staple of the holiday season in recent years, other UK stores have been unveiling their ads to the world.

Aldi, along with its Christmas mascot Kevin the carrot, has this week revealed their 2019 effort and it features a rather well-known voice, and no, we don't mean Jim Broadbent.

The German supermarket chain has become a staple of the British shopping scene in recent years with new stores opening up all over the country.

Aldi's growing popularity has also extended to its annual Christmas adverts featuring Kevin the carrot.

This year, we're introduced to Kevin as he's strapped to a cheese grater with a crowd of angry Brussels sprouts berating him. Luckily, Kevin is saved by a brave Tommy tomato and the pair escape into a huge vegetable-filled circus tent where Kevin suddenly takes on the role of a showman, the greatest showman in our opinion, and belts out a rather catchy tune.

Who's singing?

Eagle-eared viewers will instantly notice that Kevin's singing voice is far different to his usual squeaky tones.

That's because Kevin's singing voice is actually provided by non-other than Robbie Williams himself who sings a slightly Aldi-fied version of his hit Let Me Entertain You.

Robbie Williams of Take That performs during the 193th 'Wetten, Dass...?' show at the Messe Halle on February 12, 2011 in Halle, Germany.

How much would it cost to have Robbie Williams in the advert?

While it's always welcome to see, or hear in this case, a big celebrity cameoing in a Christmas ad, you do have to wonder how much it costs to book these well-known faces.

In 2018, John Lewis reportedly paid up to £5 million to have Elton John appear in their signature advert so it's quite a surprise to see Aldi, a plucky little bargain supermarket, bring in the former Take That star who will also have cost an arm and a leg to hire.

According to Celebrity Talent International, to hire Robbie Williams for a private event, it can cost between £500,000 and £1,000,000 but his fee to appear in the Aldi ad, even in voice form, is so far unknown.

One thing that we do know for certain is that Aldi's Kevin the carrot has got a stunning singing voice.
