Mendes has not been a regular observer of Rangers this season, but he has seen them over their last two games against Porto.
And Mendes claims that he has noticed that Rangers’ players seem to have a never say die attitude.
“I was impressed with the second half, the way they came back,” he said, when asked what he thought of the new Rangers side, which he had watched for one of the first times last night.
“I was also impressed with the second half in Porto.
“It’s a team that even if things don’t go their way, they come back stronger. They don’t give up. It’s because of the quality they have in their team, they have fantastic players in their team.”
Rangers picked up an impressive 2-0 victory over Porto last night to edge themselves closer to the knockout stages in the Europa League.
Rangers had been struggling against Porto in the opening 45 minutes, but Steven Gerrard’s half-time team-talk seemed to work wonders.
Rangers were a changed team after the break, and they were rewarded through goals from Alfredo Morelos and Steven Davis.
Gerrard’s men have now taken four points off Porto in their two matches against the Portuguese giants, which is a hugely impressive return.
Rangers’ next European match comes against Feyenoord at the end of the month, when they will be looking to secure their qualification to the knockout stages.
