Tam McManus thinks that Callum McGregor could still leave Celtic despite penning a long-term contract with the Scottish Premiership champions.

Former Hibernian player McManus claimed that 'big clubs' will still come hunting for McGregor as he described him as a reliable player who is 'always a 7/10'.

On Wednesday, Celtic penned down their 26-year-old academy product to a further five years, as reported by BBC Sport.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer (06/11/19), McManus thinks it was a 'brilliant' piece of business from the Bhoys, as he stated that McGregor is a dream player for any manager.

It was suggested whether McGregor's five-year contract is based on 'here's your future here' or one of those deals to protect an asset if someone comes calling.

"He is [ever reliable], he's never injured," McManus told PLZ Soccer. "He's a guy who you are going to get 40, 50 games out of all season and he's a managers dream. Somebody you can rely on. He's not going to pick up a niggle or cry off injured.

"He's always available and he can play anywhere on the pitch. And he's always a 7/10 every week, so brilliant business for Celtic to get him tied up. But there will still be other big clubs looking at him."

McGregor has won five Scottish Premiership titles at Parkhead, as he will be eager for his club to push for their ninth consecutive crown this term.

Neil Lennon's men are leading the charge, at this moment in time, at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, but their Old Firm rivals are breathing down their neck.

Added with Premiership honours, McGregor will be looking to help Celtic continue their domestic domination, as they chase a tenth straight trophy next month.

Manager Neil Lennon of Celtic arrives prior to the UEFA Europa League group E match between Lazio Roma and Celtic FC at Stadio Olimpico on November 07, 2019 in Rome, Italy.
