The Sheffield Wednesday defender has been impressive for the Owls since his arrival at Hillsborough in the summer.
The centre-back joined the Owls from German club Arminia Bielefeld in the summer and has enjoyed a very bright start to life at Hillsborough with a series of solid performances.
In October, Borner helped Wednesday record clean sheets against Wigan and Stoke, and also opened his goalscoring account for the Owls with a fine volley in the Cardiff draw.
As a result, the 28-year-old is in the running for the illustrious award, vying with Juninho Bacuna of Huddersfield, Tom Bradshaw of Millwall and Aleksandar Mitrovic of Fulham.
"Unknown when he arrived at Hillsborough, his positional sense, composure in bringing the ball out and leadership qualities have all stood out," said the EFL in their press release.
Here is what some of the Hillsborough faithful said on social media regarding the nomination:

Borner has been nominated even though he missed Wednesday's goalless stalemate with Leeds after sustaining an ankle injury in the warm-up, being replaced at centre-back by Sam Hutchinson.
The judging panel is comprised of Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies, and the winner will be announced on Friday.
