Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi scored his side's goal as they drew 1-1 with Vitoria yesterday.

Martin Keown has told BT Sport, during their live Europa League coverage, that he expects Shkodran Mustafi to play regularly for Arsenal in the competition.

Mustafi has lost his place in Arsenal’s starting line-up this term, with the German defender not particularly popular with Gunners fans.

The likes of Rob Holding, David Luiz, Sokratis and Calum Chambers all appear to be ahead of Mustafi in the pecking order for places at Arsenal.

However, Mustafi scored for the Gunners last night in their 1-1 draw with Vitoria.

And Keown feels that Mustafi’s goal may just have helped him save his career at the Emirates Stadium.

“It’s a wonderful ball in from Nicolas Pepe and it’s a big moment for Mustafi because you wondered if his Arsenal career was well and truly over,” Keown said.

“You saw the improvement in him afterwards, the confidence with the diagonal balls, and this will do him the world of good. Whether he gets back in or not, he’s going to play in this competition.”

Arsenal’s display against Vitoria last night was hardly convincing, as they disappointed again.

Mustafi had put Arsenal into the lead late on, but the Gunners let the three points slip, as they conceded in injury time.

Although Arsenal are still set to qualify from their Europa League group, the draw has done little to relieve the pressure on Unai Emery.

Arsenal have struggled to hold on to leads of late, and their failure to see out last night’s victory has only led to further criticism of the side.
