Looking through the star-studded Ajax team who stormed to the Champions League semi-final last season, it feels like almost every single member of Erik Ten Hag’s squad has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur at some time or another.
Donny Van de Beek, Hakim Ziyech, Nicolas Tagliafico and David Neres were all mentioned as potential additions to Mauricio Pochettino’s side over the last 12 months. So too were Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, before they sealed big-money moves to Juventus and Barcelona of course.
And with the January transfer window looming large, Ajax fans must be sick of speculation linking their star men with the side who broke their hearts with a Lucas Moura hat-trick in the spring. The carousel is turning again.
The Sun claims that goalkeeper Andre Onana is a £35 million replacement for Hugo Lloris while right-back Noussair Mazraoui, as reported by AS Roma Live, is on the radar of both Tottenham and Leicester City.
Now, Ajax’s defence might have been breached four times by Chelsea during Tuesday’s madcap eight-goal Champions League thriller at Stamford Bridge but both Onana and Mazraoui came out of the game with their reputations enhanced.
Quick, aggressive and tidy in possession, could Morocco international Mazraoui solve Spurs’ problems at right-back? The fans certainly think so.
Would love to see us approach Mazraoui as well— Max (@MaxTHFC_) November 5, 2019
Mazroui seems an easier one in Jan. With Juan Foyth pairing with him— Asika Jordan (@JordanAsika) November 5, 2019
Who is this Ajax right back? Never heard of him but he is having a great game, looks very tidy.— Hotspur Edition (@HotspurEdition) November 5, 2019
Mazraoui looks like an option for our rightback problem— Pochciple (@Pochciple) November 5, 2019
Wouldn't mind us going in for Noussair Mazraoui at RB.— Aaron Pitters ✍️️ (@aaronpitters) November 5, 2019
