Jordan Henderson was given the night off due to illness, as Liverpool picked up three points in the Champions League last night.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gives the thumbs-up during the Premier League match between Aston Villa and Liverpool FC at Villa Park on November 2, 2019 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Jurgen Klopp has told the Liverpool Echo that Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson was in bed while the rest of his teammates took on Genk last night.

Henderson missed out on playing for Liverpool yesterday due to illness.

The midfielder could only watch on television, as the Reds just about claimed the three points at Anfield.

And Klopp admits that he is yet to speak to Henderson about his health, although he is hoping for good news in time for the weekend.

“Jordan was in bed. I hope he is better but I didn’t speak to him after the game,” he said.

Liverpool managed to squeeze past Genk even without Henderson, as they picked up an important victory, which puts them in a commanding position to progress from their group.

The Reds scored their goals against the Belgian side through Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, despite not being at their best throughout the contest.

Liverpool’s focus will now turn to a huge game against Manchester City on Sunday.

If Henderson is back to full health it seems likely that the England international will start, and his aggression in midfield could be key, as Liverpool look to hurt Pep Guardiola’s side.
