The 22-year-old has been tipped for a move to Western Europe for some time now having spent much of the last few months being linked to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
In quotes reported by the Scottish Sun earlier in the year, Mustafazada admitted that he would ‘jump’ at the chance to wear the famous green and white Hoops. But when his contract at Gabala expired, he joined Azerbaijan outfit Sabah FK on a free transfer instead.
However, reports suggest that he could be on the move again in the new year.
Azerisport claims that Mustafazada has held preliminary talks with Sunderland ahead of a potential switch to the Stadium of Light on the cards.
Speaking to the same publication, the young centre-back admitted that he wants to move away from Azerbaijan sooner rather than later, though he stopped short of commenting directly on claims that he is Wearside-bound.
