Tyler Roberts scored his first goal of the season at the weekend.

Tyler Roberts scored for Leeds United at the weekend to make a breakthrough in the win over  QPR.

It was Roberts’ first goal of the season after beginning the campaign with an injury.

Injuries have been the story of Roberts’ Leeds career since moving to the club from West Brom in 2018.

It is up to Roberts now to kick on, and really develop as a footballer over the next seven or eight months.

If he can do that then he could be Leeds’ difference maker when it comes to winning promotion.

Leeds have struggled to score goals this season and it is the reason why they sit joint top of the Championship rather than six or nine points clear.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are fortunate that Roberts has returned now, and it is up to the player to kick on and prove his quality.

Roberts was brought to Leeds to score goals, but he has not done enough of it since joining.

If he can become a 10-20 goal a season player, Leeds should finish in the top two.

It is up to manager Bielsa to get the best out of the young Wales international and start to get him channelling his promise and potential into production.

Saturday’s breakthrough goal was a good start and will lift the youngster’s confidence.

Roberts is only 20, and he needs to feel that he belongs in Leeds’ starting XI. He could do with adding a touch of arrogance to his game.

Eddie Nketiah and Patrick Bamford are assets to Leeds, but ones who have not yet shown their very best.

Roberts needs to lead by example and become a vital third option for the Whites.

He could be the difference maker the team have been crying out for.
