Ben White joined Leeds United on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old central defender joined Championship club Leeds on loan from Premier League outfit Brighton in the summer transfer window.
The youngster, who can also operate as a right-back, has been superb for the Whites and has established himself as a key figure in head coach Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
White is brilliant on the ball, defends strongly, spreads the ball around superbly, and is not shy of going into a challenge.
Former Leeds striker Whelan believes that the defender would be a good permanent signing for the Whites in the summer of 2020.
Whelan said about White on BBC Radio Leeds: “He’s a special player, isn’t he? He’s a special player. I know he doesn’t belong to us, I wish he did. That kid seems to have everything.
“If he does get us up to the Premier League, maybe there is a deal to be done. But I can imagine that he’s going to cost a lot of money, but he would be worth it.”
Praise for Patrick Bamford
Meanwhile, Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa has praised striker Patrick Bamford for his performance against Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road in the Championship at the weekend.
The former Nottingham Forest and Chelsea striker did not score against QPR, as the West Yorkshire outfit won 2-0.
Bielsa told Leeds Live about Bamford’s pressing against QPR: “He is responsible for that as well. The centre-forward is the player who leads the press. If he doesn’t do well the pressure is difficult.”
