Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been hitting the headlines over the past few days.
Paul Merson has given his take on Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in The Daily Star.
The former Arsenal star does not think that the Emirates Stadium faithful should have the booed Xhaka against Crystal Palace last weekend.
Merson, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Arsenal manager Unai Emery loves the Switzerland international midfielder, and that things will eventually calm down and go back to normal.
Merson wrote about Xhaka in The Daily Star after criticising the jeers against him: “The guy is not Patrick Vieira or Emmanuel Petit, and he’s never going to be. He’s not in that class.
“He doesn’t have that kind of talent. But he tries his best every week. He doesn’t hide. He’s hardly ever injured.
“His manager trusts him. And his team-mates respect him. He’s popular in the dressing room.”
Merson added: “I personally think it will blow over, because Emery needs him too much. While he’s captain, he plays. Emery loves him. He plays him in all the big games.”
Keeping the faith
Xhaka is not exactly a great footballer, but he works hard and does his best for the team, and him being the Arsenal captain shows how popular he is among his teammates.
The 27-year-old is an important player in Emery’s team, and perhaps after a while, he will be back in the side.
Arsenal will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the Premier League.
The Gunners are fifth in the league table at the moment with 16 points from 10 matches.
