The Liverpool star scored a stunning goal against Arsenal but didn’t celebrate wildly against his old club.

Some Arsenal fans have hailed a lack of celebration from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the wake of last night’s League Cup encounter against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Reds midfielder, who of course spent six years at the Gunners, was one of the top performers in a highly entertaining fourth round clash that was eventually won on penalties by Jurgen Klopp’s side.

That shoot-out came after a pulsating 90 minutes which ended in a 5-5 draw. Both teams scored some classy, blockbuster goals, but Oxlade-Chamberlain’s was undoubtedly one of the best of the evening.

Despite scoring a career highlight reel effort, the 26-year-old did not take the opportunity to celebrate with passion against his old club. Instead he simply held his hands up and received congratulations from his stunned teammates.

As quoted by The Evening Standard, the player explained: “I always want to show a lot of respect for Arsenal and what they did for me and the times I had there. I didn’t want to celebrate but it was a tough one to hold in.

“I wanted to take my shirt off and go mad!”

After injury problems at Anfield, the England international is again getting closer to his peak form and relishing his role in Klopp’s midfield.

Having scored twice in the Champions League last week and against Arsenal last night, he’ll be hoping to make more Premier League appearances moving forward.

These Arsenal fans were pleased to see him show respect to his former side, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts…
