A new Game of Thrones prequel series has been announced but where will it be filmed?

Game of Thrones may have come to an end but our journies into Westeros are far from over.

After the huge success of Game of Thrones, a show that became arguably the biggest in all of TV history, it was only a matter of time until a new series was heading our way.

That new show appeared at first to a Jane Goldman-ran exploration into the origins of the White Walkers and the first war against them, The Long Night.

That show, which was set to star Naomi Watts, has been cancelled before it ever truly began.

However, we now have another new Game of Thrones spin-off in the works and this one seems to be heading our way at full steam.

House of the Dragon is on its way!

This new Game of Thrones spin-off was revealed to be House of the Dragon.

The series will be helmed by regular Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik who directed episodes such as Battle of the Bastards, Hardome and The Long Night as well as Ryan Condal who will take up the majority of the show’s writing duties.

George R.R. Martin is slated to be involved in the series as a producer and will no doubt assist with the show’s story and lore along the line just as he did for the original Game of Thrones series alongside David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

What is the House of the Dragon going to be about?

House of the Dragon is rumoured to show the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty that ruled Westeros for almost 300 years before Robert’s Rebellion seized control of the Seven Kingdoms and brought about the events we see in Game of Thrones.

Whether or not we’ll see the first Targaryen conquest of Westeros remains to be seen but it’s certainly going to be high on the wishlist for fans of George R.R. Martin’s novels.

Where will the series be filmed?

As the series has only just been announced, we can’t say for certain where the show will be filmed.

However, given that we’re just coming off the back of Game of Thrones, providing HBO want to use the same filming locations, we could indeed see House of the Dragon visit some familiar places.

The locations that the show chooses to film will likely be heavily based on what story is told in the series and where in Westeros, or indeed Essos, the show is set.

Chances are high that HBO will want the new show to keep as much of the Game of Thrones feel as possible and as a result, will probably seek to film in Belfast and Northern Ireland once again, just as it did for Game of Thrones itself.

Of course, if King’s Landing is going to be featured in the show, something which again is highly likely, then the stunning Croatian city of Dubrovnik is almost certainly going to play host to the fictional city once again.

Of course, we’ll keep you updated on all there is to know about House of the Dragon and what could possibly be in store from the new Game of Thrones spin-off.
