The Aston Villa midfielder played a crucial part in his side’s cup win.
Aston Villa fans have been left impressed by the performance of Henri Lansbury after he helped his side progress into the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
The 29-year-old assisted both goals in the 2-1 victory at home to Wolves.
The first was a superb threaded ball for Anwar El-Ghazi to slide in the opener. The second came after the interval, with Ahmed Elmohamady on hand to slam home from a low, powerful crossed free-kick.
Lansbury has struggled to make it into Dean Smith’s team so far this season. Tonight’s start was just his second of the season, of four overall appearances.
However, this display will do his chances of more starts no harm at all. He’s certainly emerging as one of the prime midfield options to replace regular starters if there are injuries or suspensions.
His own fitness issues have been a problem, but tonight’s 81 minutes before being substituted off was a big positive step.
Villa can now look forward to a quarter-final and as they head deeper into the competition it might become more of a focus for Smith, especially if their league form picks up too.
What better way to celebrate a return to the Premier League than with serious silverware?
These fans were impressed by Lansbury, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts tonight…
i can’t believe there’s some people who actually don’t rate henry lansbury #avfc— Nick (@Chornstarr) October 30, 2019
One of the most comfortable halves of football I’ve seen from us this season, although granted it is against a very weak Wolves side full of kids. So far we have controlled the game with ease, with Lansbury and Luiz pulling the strings. Same again second half please #AVFC #UTV— Andrew Ashburn (@AndrewAshburn) October 30, 2019

What a ball from lansbury. I think he could quite easily do a job if Grealish or McGiinn gets injured. #AVFC— Villa Mad. (@VillaMad3) October 30, 2019
I take it back, Lansbury is now on fire— AVFC.jpeg (@AVFC_jpeg) October 30, 2019
Lansbury looks fit for the first time in about 2 years and the way he’s moving round the pitch shows that a fit Lansbury is an asset to any team.#avfc— Cry Partisan 3.0 (@CryPartisanUSA) October 30, 2019
