Fernando Torres has predicted that Liverpool will right the wrongs of last season and finally win a Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp's side had a near-perfect season last term, losing only once and winning a total of 97 points.

And yet it wasn't enough for Liverpool to win a first top-flight league title since 1990, with Pep Guardiola's side finishing the campaign with 98 points.

The Reds look good to correct that this time around, leading City by six points at the Premier League's summit.

And legendary striker Torres, who had a superb three-and-a-half years on Merseyside, is backing his old side to go all the way this time.

He told Liverpool's official website: "I was really looking forward to the end of the Premier League and it’s unbelievable with 97 points you cannot win the league. I know how important it is to win the Premier League for Liverpool. [I believe] it will happen this year."

Liverpool fans will be hoping Torres is right and he just might be.

Klopp's troops look a different animal this season, claiming 28 points from a possible 30 and the Sky Blues - who have lost twice in the Premier League - look slightly erratic.

Guardiola's side visit Anfield on November 11 and anything but a win for City would make it so difficult to catch Liverpool.

Liverpool Manager Rafael Benitez congratulates Fernando Torres as he is substituted during the Barclays Premier League match between Liverpool and Portsmouth at Anfield on March 15, 2010...
