Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 to Liverpool yesterday, but Paulo Gazzaniga managed to impress.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has told the London Evening Standard that he thought Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga was ‘outstanding’ yesterday.

Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners over Spurs yesterday, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side make them work for the three points.

Tottenham took the lead early on through Harry Kane, and they set up to defend their advantage.

Spurs’s backline generally proved fairly robust, but when they were beaten Gazzaniga proved a hugely difficult man to get past.

Gazzaniga pulled off a host of eye catching saves, as he thwarted Liverpool time after time.

And even though the Argentine stopper was eventually beaten twice, as Liverpool picked up the three points, Van Dijk was still very impressed by the Spurs man.

“Gazzaniga was outstanding,” said Van Dijk. “We have to give him credit for that. We had a feeling that it [the goal] would come anyway, but he saved a couple of good ones. You have to deal with that and we scored a deserved equaliser and in the end it was all good.”

Gazzaniga is currently standing in for Hugo Lloris in Tottenham’s goal, as the Frenchman is out injured.

If he continues to perform to such a high level though, Lloris could face a real fight to earn his place back when he does return to fitness.

Spurs are next in action against Everton, when Gazzaniga will be hoping to impress again.
